Hidden Cite Album

This is a collection of original songs that I composed, performed, and produced for a variety of different film scoring projects.  I choose to publish these songs several years ago in an effort to learn how to distribute digital content and share this knowledge with my students.

Collaboration

Accomplished song writer and guitar performer David Domenick shared his recording of 77th Street with me.  I scored, arranged, mixed and mastered a remixed version of his work. This began a new venture into orchestration and music production for local artists.

Tom Ragland Commission

Tom Ragland engaged my services to refine and enhance several tracks he had recorded. He provided me with the vocal and guitar tracks, and my task was to polish them and orchestrate his songs with additional instruments. I examined the chord structures, groove, and overall form he established. Subsequently, I composed and recorded bass, drums, and other complementary instruments into the mix. My aim was to create a seamless flow by introducing new themes and counter-melodies where feasible. After completing the arrangement, I returned the project to Tom for his review and any suggested modifications. Upon finalization, Tom released his works online for public enjoyment.

Film Scoring - Dangerous Creation

Film by Teresa and Andrew Alden

Andrew Alden is an accomplished film maker and musician who was my former music student when I taught at Burr and Burton Academy.  We collaborated on the opening credits and underscores for several scenes in his movie - Dangerous Creations.  I played trumpet on the opening credits and also produced the song in the studio.  I also played a cult leader in the film and scored a few scenes.

FILM SCORE - The Silence Between

This was a beautiful collaboration with my former student Danielle Hazelton.  I was approached by Danielle in her Senior year of film school to score her final project.  The message of the story is one of silencing the mind to achieve focus and peace.  I composed the musical score and later published the score on my album Hidden Cite.   I also have a few on screen moments, excuse my acting.   Danielle submitted this film to several festivals, and it was awarded several accolades.  The Global Music Award was presented for best musical score.

TRUMPET STUDIO WORK

Stanley Beck - Guitarist and song writer from Portland Maine has included my trumpet performance on several of his albums. His hard rock, punkish style has great energy. Another former Burr and Burton student keeping music in their lives.

LARGE ENSEMBLE COMPOSITIONS

The student created remake of "Young Frankenstein" scene.
Live music set to film in concert using my original "Diggers "composition.

Over the course of my career, I found it increasingly important to customize my student's repertoire to meet the diverse ability levels and instrumentation of my ensembles.   I have arranged over a thousand songs and have composed original works as well.  Here are a few original compositions produced with MIDI and later performed with my ensembles.

Felt Sense was inspired by a book of the same title that explores human emotion.

Bytes was inspired by the technological revolution.

Diggers was created for a remake of Young Frankenstein that was set to a "Prism Concert" format.

MULTI MEDIA CONCERT PERFORMANCES

The Prism Concert offers a vibrant and engaging musical journey, presenting a non-stop showcase, fluidly moving from one performance to the next, featuring a variety of musical groups, solo artists, choirs, and multimedia. The concert's name, "Prism," represents the diversity of the performances and the celebration of musical prowess, akin to a prism casting a spectrum of colors. During my career I have produced over 25 Prism Concerts each with a unique twist and artistic vision.

VISUAL CREATIONS

Best seen in full screen mode

For a closing number at one of our Prism performances, we created a "spark video" that was projected onto a shadow dancer screen.  To create the video, our photography teacher aAlex Vincent and I tied steel wool to a string, lit it on fire, and spun it over our heads.  The film we created was then processed into this video and set to a live performance of "Saturn" by Sleeping At Last. - a shadow of a dancer representing the Phoenix rising appeared in the image on stage.

On Three:

Using some of the spark videos we created, I entered a competition where I would create a visualization to an original composition using the FL Studio Visualizer app.  I used samples from Cymatics to create the original music track.

STUDENT PROJECTS

FARMBOY!

Dylan was a special needs student that loved music.  Throughout the semester, I guided him into the creation of this music video, helping him create the lyrics and the backtrack for his song in my Music Production course.  We built a shot list together and pulled a team of film makers together for the photo shoot.  Dylan and the team then crafted this final product.  We shared the movie in concert and had Dylan sing the tune at our Spring Festival . This was truly one of the finest educational experiences of my career.

FOLEY WORK

The two students that helped with Farmboy, learned about FOLEY this semester as well. Kaylie and Michael submitted this as their final project.
